ClimateRisk Monitor: the world’s catastrophes, priced in real time

There is no shortage of climate catastrophe news. What’s missing is the economic read: how much damage, how much of it insured, which regions, which perils — and how that picture is changing right now. Those numbers exist, but they arrive fragmented across agencies and reports, often weeks after the water has receded. For a business leader, an investor or a risk manager, weeks-late is decision-useless.

So we built the live version: ClimateRisk Monitor — a real-time dashboard that tracks weather catastrophes worldwide and translates them into the figures decision-makers act on.

The dashboard leads with money, not weather

Most climate tools show you storms. This one shows you exposure. The top line is a running tally of total catastrophe damage and insured losses — and, between them, the number that matters most: the protection gap, the share of losses no one insured. A hurricane isn’t just a wind speed; it’s a damage figure, a coverage ratio and a risk level.

Full ClimateRisk Monitor dashboard: metrics, world map and intelligence feed
One screen: headline event, loss metrics, a live severity map and the intelligence feed.

Beneath the metrics, an interactive world map plots active events by severity, and a regional breakdown splits the impact across Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific, MENA and Latin America. A peril taxonomy — drought, earthquake, flood, heat wave, hurricane, storm, tornado, wildfire — lets a user filter to exactly the risk they carry.

From raw feeds to a briefing you can hear

A dashboard is only as good as the flow behind it. ClimateRisk Monitor continuously ingests global event and news feeds, classifies each event by peril, severity and region, and estimates its economic footprint — honestly flagging “damage estimate pending” rather than inventing a number before the data exists. On top of the visual layer sit a curated breaking-news feed and an automatically generated audio briefing — the day’s climate risk, as a podcast, for people who’d rather listen than read.

Why it fits Operal’s line

Under the surface it’s the same discipline as our regulated-AI work: many messy public sources, fused into one grounded view, with provenance kept and uncertainty shown rather than hidden. The protection gap is a perfect example — the most decision-relevant number in catastrophe risk, and the one almost nobody sees in real time.

Climate risk is already priced into the world. ClimateRisk Monitor just puts the price on one screen — as it moves.

Turning a headline into a system?

That’s what we do — compliant, Swiss-hosted, audit-ready.
